Scad Update

I never did give an update on the actual classes I'm taking this quarter at SCAD.

First off is 3D Naturalistic Character Animation. The video from last post was created for this class. I'm a very cartoony guy. Keeping myself from exaggerating too much and staying mostly true to life is really teaching me a lot. Expect a new video from this class really soon.

Next class is Character Look Development. Remember this guy?
Well I'll be making him look more impressive in this class. Here's a sneak peak at the website I'm building for the class.  Pache Character Page  We just recently learned fur and it's going to really take some work to make it look as I want it to. Here's what I have so far.

Last but not least is 3D Collaborative Project.  In this class, me and my group must create a short film in one quarter.  It's really intense.  I'm not sure what I'm allowed to show at the moment but expect it sooner or later.

Similar to last quarter I'm really going to have to work hard to get my good grades.  I am learning a ton and can't wait to see the kind of content I crank out as finals steadily approaches.

Take it to the hoop!

Project 1 - Rotoscope Assignment

My first try at rotoscoping in 3d. Still needs some tweaking to make it more expressive.

Been a while huh?

Just when I say expect more soon I go and disappear for over two months.  I have a few older things to show that will lead into the newer things to come.  Mainly a new Demo Reel!

First up, I never uploaded my final from Drawing in Motion class.

A ton of in-betweens are still needed along with consistency issues.

Next is my final from Digital Sculpting
He came out looking good.  I'm currently taking the class Character Look development where I will complete him with textures and fur.

Last but not least a digital drawing.
Isn't she a cutie?
Expect more soon and I mean it this time!

Beefcake Chipmunk

Second of 3 models for my zbrush class. The idea for this one was a chipmunk on steroids. Once I got into 3d I just started to go crazy with his bulkiness.

Quite a few fixes for this guy
  • Better coloration of teeth and eyes
  • Smooth out fur for better variation
  • Forearms a bit too bulby, flatten and shape better.
Now that my two over exaggerated zbrush characters are done its time to put what I learned to use and come out with a really awesome raccoon character next. 3 weeks of classes left and over 4 big projects to go...

Happy Mothers Day!!

Today I dedicate this post to the most beautiful, inspiring, wise, helpful, unselfish, genuine, the list goes on but we could be here forever...Mom thank you for everything and making me the best, and still working on it, me I can be. Happy Mothers day!! Can't wait to see you in a few weeks. Love you always.

The drawing doesn't do her justice, but I am getting better and will definitely be drawing more!

Rotoscoping!

Turned in my rotoscoping project today. It's far from finished. Took so many hours just to get it this far.

Still need to make the background, finish shading, and fix up line work.

Happy Birthday Kirsty!

Took a years wait but I finally drew your colored pic in time for your birthday!
I still need way more practice in digital painting. Getting the hair right would've made this picture perfect! Still was very fun to draw.

Here's a look at what I did last year.
Must say I've improved quite a bit!

Heres how I did it.

Fat Bear Model

The first of 3 models for my zbrush class is nearly completed. The idea was to create a fat bear character.
I modeled out the basic structure in Maya and then went to town on it in zbrush.

There's still a bit of work to be done with him.
  • Add more fat and rolls
  • Add teeth and eyes, adjust face a bit
  • Fix feet
  • Make fur less symetrical
If anyone else has any additions, please feel free to comment!

Pache

Redesign of my old raccoon character now named "Pache." He and two others will be modeled in 3d using Maya then detailed in ZBrush for my Digital Sculpting for Gaming class.
Here is his old design again.

Street Boxing

A short based on Muybridges studies of motion. The assignment was to take the first 12 images of a sequence and create our own mark of motion.

This is the first "no frills" version.

And just like that break is over...

Class Tomorrow?!?!
Feels like it only just started. I got around to coloring some old sketches.

Instead of having a drawing day today I ended up having a blast at the park. Until we got rained on that is... In Savannah it can go from this:

with little to no warning.

What Time is It?

Spring break woooooo~
Only one week of a break left at the moment but it's much needed. I don't update this site as much as I should so as of now I vow to post something every Sunday. It's a good way to keep me working on things for myself and not just class assignments.

Here are a few works I should post now so I don't get lazy and try to pass them off as next weeks posts.

Thank you to my friend Sadie for letting me use her photos to practice some digital art!

Here go my works from my second quarter at SCAD. Sadly I'm not really satisfied with any of them. Will most likely work on a these this week.

Aesthetics Final

3d Modeling final. I didn't get to texture and rig it as I had hoped. Lookout for the finished version in the future.
video

Media theory's final was a group project. I was responsible for the robot animation.

Get a life!

Found this article really eye opening.
http://www.cartoonbrew.com/anime/anime-master-to-student-animator-get-a-life.html
Some key quotes that I like are.
"simply loving drawing isn’t enough to become an animator."

"If after reading this you find yourself saying “but I still want to do it,” that isn’t desire. You need to know IN YOUR BONES that you are willing to STRUGGLE to do this, that you’re willing to starve before taking another kind of job. Desire alone isn’t enough for a job that requires you to have the facility in a wide range of styles to draw hundreds of illustrations of a certain quality within a certain timeframe.

"When working in pen, you need to get yourself to the level where you can easily crosshatch freehand. This is the level of ability that is already being demanded of you, Miyuri, so there’s no time to waste with simple “desire.”"
